It s not the picture disc they are normally crap sonically it s a 180g black vinyl copy. I ran it through a technics su 91g and my ess 1b speakers. The biggest complaint is a shut in sound and poor dynamics on the cd. So much of tool s third full length studio album five years in the waiting due in part to extended legal turbulence makes so little sense at first.

Anyway on a whim i splashed out on tools lateralus on vinyl. The discs are heavy grade being a double album the grooves are not crammed in tightly together allowing for more headroom and giving your arm and cartridge every opportunity to extract as much detail and energy as possible. Mine has tons of surface noise. Here s hoping they release this album properly for vinyl. I ve only seen few that say it sounds great so looks like it ll just be a collectors item for me. Lateralus flows like a concept album and is helped to do this by its linking songs.

As soon as i received it i cleaned it thoroughly and then i put it on the platter of my b o turntable with an mmc 5 cartridge running at 1 2 gram. Lateralus has long been a favourite album and this vinyl pressing serves only to enhance the experience. This is an amazing two picture disk lp of tool s lateralus. Sounds ok when it s full band but in the soft dynamics it ruins the listening.
